to Export Award

When the going gets tough W.Howard certainly keeps going and this year has been no different. The family owned company has won the prestigious Greater Manchester Passport to Export award for 2010, one of the five county accolades given to celebrate overseas success by North West companies. Graham Williams operations director said “We have an ongoing business development programme which identified export as one of our strategies for expansion. That happened before the current downturn when we anticipated the UK market was coming under pressure”

May I firstly start my rant by saying that I heartily applaud growing the use of green energy and that everyone should do their bit by helping the environment. I believe that people in the UK Timber Trade do act responsibly and our industry is one of the most environmentally friendly ones involved in the construction trade.

When W.Howard emerged in 1958 as a Timber Merchants in Manchester, who would have known in 50 years time they would transform into the company it is today. Winning Family Business of the year at the Wigan Business awards certainly helped W.Howard to end the year on a high and left them ready to face the new challenges that awaited them in 2009.

Family-owned Astley company W Howard Limited has won the prestigious Greater Manchester Passport to Export Award 2010, organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). Six line leaders at W Howard, the leading MDF mouldings manufacturer, have all passed the Introduction to Management Programme endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). The ILM is Europe’s largest vocational qualification and professional membership body, with around 80,000 people registered for awards since its launch five years ago.
